What is the Most Reliable HVAC Brand?
And, quite often, the main factor in the type of system you choose comes down to cost.
If you find yourself in this situation, please note that – when considering the price of your potential heating and air system – another major factor you should consider is reliability. A reliable system can and will pay for itself over the life of the unit(s). For instance, the average lifespan of an air conditioner is 10-15 years, but if you buy a cheaper system more prone to breakdowns, you will easily eclipse the cost of the more expensive system over that span in repair costs – not to mention the hassle of missing work to meet repair technicians.
So, you should always factor reliability against final costs.
With that said, what are some of the brands that you can rely on? In fact, what is the most reliable HVAC brand on the market today?
At Conditioned Air Systems, we have spent almost 40 years determining this through hands-on research, installation, service, repair, and working cheek-by-jowl with those who construct the HVAC units that keep us cool in the summer and warm in the winter. That is why we offer a wide range of choices for our customers – all of which offer reliable service and ease of use.
That includes cooling and heating industry leaders Carrier, Daikin, Lennox, Trane, and York.
Each one of these companies produces better than quality, they are in fact leading the way for how we heat and cool our homes in the 21st century with the cleanest and most efficient HVAC available. We trust them in our homes and business – and that is why we trust them to you.
But don’t just take our word for it. Let’s look at some of the ratings and tests conducted by others and see what they say. This includes not just experts but consumers – the people just like you that are making decisions on which HVAC systems to install.
First off, understand that there are dozens upon dozens of HVAC brands in the modern marketplace. But not all are made equally well, a fact recognized not just by contractors and professionals but also consumers. That is why it is important that you do some research on your own and have an idea of what brands you can trust with your sizable investment. (Choosing the right installation and maintenance contractor is also hugely important, but that’s a topic for a different day).
The Experts’ Choice
Bob Vila became one of the most trusted names in America during his years of remodeling homes on This Old House and other do-it-yourself improvement/construction shows from the 1980s to 2000s. Now his name adorns a website that offers, “Tried, True, and Trustworthy Home Advice.”
On BobVila.com, experts recently weighed in on the best and most reliable HVAC brands of 2022. And in this in-depth look 10 brands were some names very familiar to Conditioned Air Systems technicians.
Leading the way was Trane – the company trusted to keep the Chunnel Tunnel comfortable for passengers whizzing between London and mainland Europe. A 135-year-old Irish company, Trane produces some of the best SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) numbers in the business – and efficiency is a great sign of reliability.
Right behind was Lennox. With 126 years in the HVAC business, Lennox has built a name for itself in efficiency and technology. In fact, it is considered an innovator in the market, all while being known for providing ultra-quiet units that hum along (unnoticed) for years by happy customers.
At almost 150 years old, York has had plenty of time to craft its identity, and it has done just that. In Vila’s 2022 top 10, York is known not just for home comfort but for also providing reliable systems for some of the biggest buildings in the United States, including the US Capitol and Empire State Building. Yet that does not mean it is out of your price range, as York also offers several affordable options.
Carrier invented modern air conditioning in 1902 and is still one of the most reliable and trusted names on the market today. Carrier is also in this top 10 and continues to be an innovator in HVAC. In fact, it is one of the largest HVAC companies in the modern market and produces a wide range of products to match.
While the Texas-based Daikin has more than 90 years of operation in HVAC and has sold millions of systems throughout 140 countries, it is not as well known a name amongst consumers. Contractors and technicians know it well however, and the fact that Daikin also produces Amana and Goodman HVAC products shows just how impressive the company is. Both Amana and Goodman are in Bob Vila’s top 10, with Amana known for its high-tech designs and Goodman offering highly affordable reliability.
The Consumers’ Choice
So, we’ve heard from the experts; the people you trust to get the job done. But sometimes you just want to hear from your friends and neighbors – and that’s exactly how it should be. There is no better advocate than someone who has purchased a product and lived/worked with it for years on end.
With that in mind, let’s peruse a couple of consumer studies for the 2021 HVAC market, starting with this report on Lifestory Research.
Lifestory compiled the opinions of 6,453 of United States residents between January and December to produce a list of most trusted HVAC companies. And included in that list were the brands of:
- Trane
- Carrier
- Lennox
- York
- Amana – produced by Daikin
- Goodman – produced by Daikin
Clearly, these companies have built up a reputation by producing quality comfort year after year. And the results were only echoed by another consumer survey – this one from longtime trusted source Consumer Reports.
While the publication did not test central HVAC systems it did, “estimate the reliability of major brands on the market by asking our members about their experiences with the central AC systems they have purchased and had installed.”
This exhaustive search included information from almost 24,000 HVAC purchases between the years of 2005 and 2020. Consumer Reports even asked readers which parts broke, and the repair costs involved. They further went on to ask which brands readers would recommend to family and friends.
In all these volumes of research, five brands received a top rating of “excellent” for satisfaction. And among those five were Trane, Lennox, and Carrier.
As you can see the five manufacturers that Conditioned Air Systems puts its faith in are names that are appreciated and trusted nationally (and worldwide for that matter). And reliability is a huge part of that trust.
So, if you are thinking about installing a new HVAC system in your home or business, consider not only one of these five names but also a contractor that has spent decades getting to know these systems intimately. Conditioned Air Systems knows every inch of these reliable brands and can help you make the perfect decision for your home or business.
